What Is The Game About?
Dr Robotnik has come to the land and turned all the furry creatures into his robotic minions. Sonic, the hero of the story, must destroy try and capture the chaos emeralds and defeat Robotnik and his evil plan.
Gameplay
Sonic The Hedgehog is basically a platformer like the many others that came out during the days of the Sega Genesis. You run, jump and bounce on your enemies to destroy them. However, where Sonic differs from the others is the fact that it wants you to go as fast as you can.
Each level is timed and your time gains you a bonus at the end of the level. The problem with this is that as you progress the environment becomes more and more agressive towards you. It gets to the point where you have no option but to go slow or face instant death.
Needless to say, this can cause great amounts of frustration and the amount of times you will die from hidden spikes and lava spots will rise rapidly. There is enough variety in the enemies to keep the game interesting.
At the end of every third level you will face off against Robotnik himself, who usually arrives in a different contraption each time. the last thing to mention is the bonus stages. Collect enough rings and at the end of each level you will be able to enter into a stage to collect a chaos emerald. This can be incredibly tricky as the world revolves around you constantly.
Graphics
There isn’t much to say about the graphics for Sonic the Hedgehog. Their bright and cute and make use of the machines underlying hardware. Even on an emulator played on a laptop they look good and detailed.
Score
Despite it being incredibly frustrating at times, I give sonic an 8 out of 10. It’s worth a play if you like a challenge in your platformer games.

Sonic is available to play through the Gens emulator. A quick google search will get you what you need.
